Lahaul and Spiti is a very beautiful place and now a days the attraction for tourist from various parts of our country and even for the foreigners the natural scenery and Buddhist-monasteries such as Ki Dhankas, Guru-Ghantal and Tayal Gompa, are the main tourist-alteration of the region.
One of the most interesting places is the Tabo Monastery, Located 45 km from Kaza, the capital of the Spiti region. This Monastery rose to prominence when it celebrated it’s 1000th year of existence in 1996. It houses the collection of Buddhist Scripture, Buddhist-states and Thangkas. The ancient Gompa is finished with mud plaster and contain several scriptures and documents. Lama Dzangpo holds the Gompa. The peace of it’s gives a great relief to the soul. One should must visit this Monastery in his life time.
Another famous Monastery Gompa is Kardang Monastery is located at an elevation of 3500 maters across the river, about 8km from Keylong, Kardang is well connected by the road via the Tandi bridge which is 14 km from the Keylong. It is built in 12th century. This Monastery house a large library of Buddhist-literature including the main Kanfyur and Tankgyur scriptures.
The treacherous weather in Lahaul and Sipti permits visitors to tour only between the month of June or October, when the roads and village are free of snow and the tiger passes (Rohtang la and Kunzum la) are open. Its is possible to access Spiti from Kinnaur (along the Satluj) all through the year, although the road is sometimes temporarily closed by landslide or by avalanches and poorly trashed roads are another issue. And it is also not easy to make these things better on these high altitudes. But by the most promising tunnel project from Solang Valley to tandi seems to soon making it easy to get on and explore the beauty of this elegant valley by connecting to the other parts of country for whole through the years.
